Do I need traction or special footwear for Grand Canyon Rim to River right now?
Asked Feb 127 views1 answer
Conditions notes mention main corridor tread was firm and easy to follow all day. and tap lines moved quickly, still worth filling before exposed climbs.. I am trying to decide if I should pack traction, neoprene socks, or just standard trail runners for South Kaibab descent with one night at Bright Angel area.

If you expect wet crossings or cold shade, neoprene socks and poles help a lot. For traction, it depends on whether you will hit icy pockets early.
If you are on the fence, pack light traction. You will not regret the small weight if the first mile is slick.
