What start time works best for Grand Canyon Rim to River in February?
Asked Feb 1411 views1 answer
I have a Grand Canyon backcountry permit day in Grand Canyon and I am debating around 6 AM versus later. Route is North Kaibab to inner canyon camp with a next-day climb out with a slow and steady. My main concerns are crowds and heat.

around 6 AM is usually the move. Cooler temps and fewer bottlenecks give you room to adjust without burning extra water.
If you start later, be strict about breaks and turnaround time so you do not end up rushing the last stretch.
