How early should I start for a Grand Canyon backcountry permit trip this month?
Asked Feb 129 views1 answer
I have a Grand Canyon backcountry permit date coming up in Grand Canyon. I am choosing between a pre-dawn start and a 7 AM start, and my main concern is heat plus crowding on Bright Angel down to river camps with a South Kaibab exit.

Start before sunrise if you can. A pre-dawn start usually gives you cooler temps, shorter lines at choke points, and more room to adjust pace if anything slows you down.
