Last updated: 2026-01-20 --- The type of incident is Prescribed Fire and involves the following unit(s) San Bernardino National Forest. --- State: California --- Coordinates: Latitude: 33° 50 00 Longitude: 116° 45 56 --- NOTE: All fire perimeters and points are approximations. --- Incident Overview: San Bernardino National Forest - Winter 2025/26 Fuels Reduction Projects. Pine Cove Fuel break:  214 acres.Favorable weather conditions are in place for hazardous fuels reduction work, and ignitions are planned for the Pine Cove Fuel Break beginning January 19, 2026.  This under burn of predominantly leaves, needles, and ground fuels is a continuation of many years of work around the community.  Ignitions will begin January 19 through Wednesday, Jan 21, and again the following week as conditions allow.  January 19 - Fire Crews Burned 30 acres on the north side of Pine Cove, in the Logan Creek / Upper San Jacinto Truck Trail Area (Junction 5S09 X 5S10) - Fire crews will continue to monitor this area for several days.January 20- Crews burned 30 acres along the west side of Pine Cove.  January 21:  Crews burned 30 acres across the west side of pine cove to near Shadow Oaks Drive at the bottom of Pine Cove.January 22 - 25 - Crews monitored burned areas for hot spots, and extinguishing smoldering materials. January 26 - Due to higher winds today, no ignitions occurred.  Today's assignment is to review all burned areas from last week, begin to pull hoses from areas burned on January 19, and install hose lays for the southeast side of the burn.  (Marion Ridge to Overlook Drive). January 27 - Crews burned 35 acres from the Southeast side of the project progressing west, between Hwy 243 / Overlook Drive west to Marion Ridge Drive. January 28 - Crews completed 40 acres of under burning between Marion Ridge and an access road off of the bottom of Shadow Oaks Rd, and south of the private property along Laurel Trail and Appleton Drive / Golden Leaf.January 29 - Crews will be burning today, one final push to complete this project while conditions remain favorable.  The last 50 acres remain between the bottom of Shadow Oaks Rd west to where crews stopped on January 21st.  January 30 through??? - Engines will remain on the project to ensure that all areas are secured, and all smoldering fuels are extinguished.  Residents in the area should avoid hiking, dog walking, etc. in the project area.  Weather will remain warm and dry, with no precipitation in the forecast.General Burning across the San Bernardino National Forest:Prescribed fires planned for the Forest include:• Big Bear Area• Pine Cove Area • Various additional locations throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties (Pile Burning)Those areas may close to the public for several days for public safety. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns. Residents may experience smoke during the prescribed burns. For more detailed information about air quality, go to AirNow online or download the app. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road.We will evaluate weather conditions in the hours before a burn begins. If conditions warrant, scheduled prescribed fire activities may be canceled.Stay informed about the scheduled prescribed fires through the forest website, social media channels, and InciWeb, the interagency incident information system.
