Logistics for The Subway We started around 5:35 AM and the early start made the whole day easier. Route we took: Out-and-back through Left Fork from Wildcat Canyon side. We kept the permit handy and it saved time when someone asked to see it. Conditions were straightforward: Cool morning air helped us move fast before the canyon warmed up. Rock steps were stable, with a few muddy pockets by the creek. Creek flow was moderate and easy to cross with poles. Overall it was a smooth day. If you want less stress: Bring one extra liter if you are unsure about water. Scorecard (out of 5): overall 4, difficulty 3, scenery 4, conditions 4.

💡

General

  • Bring one extra liter if you are unsure about water.
  • Do not trust parking to work out at the last minute.
  • Start earlier than you think if you want space on the first mile.
  • Pack a dry layer even if the forecast looks perfect.
  • Carry a small trash bag. You will find micro-trash.
