The Subway: blunt notes
Do not overthink it, but do not wing the basics either.
Route: Left Fork trailhead to the lower Subway section. Start: 5:35 AM. Crowds: light.
Weather and trail: Wind stayed light, which made the river sections easier to handle. Rock steps were stable, with a few muddy pockets by the creek.
Water: Water depth changed by section but never forced a full stop.
Best advice: Bring one extra liter if you are unsure about water.
Scorecard (out of 5): overall 4, difficulty 3, scenery 5, conditions 4.

- •Pack a dry layer even if the forecast looks perfect.
- •If the trail is muddy, slow down instead of fighting it.
