A few notes from our GC Backcountry day. We went North Kaibab to Bright Angel CG to South Kaibab with a group of 4 and started around 5:35 AM. Weather: Hot and dry in the canyon Trail: Stable tread Water: Available at major stops, carry backup capacity Permit check was low drama. Screenshot + ID and we were on our way. Everything worked. That is the whole point. The short version: start early and keep layers simple. If I did it again, I would: Pack a dry layer even if the forecast looks perfect. Ratings (1-5): overall 5, difficulty 5, scenery 5, conditions 4.

💡

General

  • Carry a small trash bag. You will find micro-trash.
  • Take photos of the permit and save them offline.
  • Pack a dry layer even if the forecast looks perfect.
  • Keep snacks accessible so breaks stay short and clean.
  • Do not trust parking to work out at the last minute.
