The Subway: blunt notes
Do not overthink it, but do not wing the basics either.
Route: Left Fork trailhead to the lower Subway section. Start: 5:10 AM. Crowds: light.
Weather and trail: Cool morning air helped us move fast before the canyon warmed up. Footing was solid on the dry benches and a little slick near water lines.
Water: Creek flow was moderate and easy to cross with poles.
Best advice: Poles help more than people admit on slick or steep exits.
