Grand Canyon Rim to River prep checklist
If you are doing this soon, here is what mattered on our 3-day.
- Route: Bright Angel down to river camps with a South Kaibab exit
- Start time: 6:50 AM
- Weather: Wind on exposed ridges eased after sunrise and made pacing simple.
- Trail: Stone steps were dry by mid-morning but still rough on knees.
- Water: Water points were open, but we still carried backup capacity.
- Crowds: moderate
- Gear: Extra socks, Offline map downloaded, Light traction, Work gloves
Two quick tips: Pack a dry layer even if the forecast looks perfect. Take photos of the permit and save them offline.
Scorecard (out of 5): overall 4, difficulty 3, scenery 4, conditions 3.
