Safety and comfort notes for Grand Canyon Rim to River A few notes from our Grand Canyon Rim to River day. We went South Kaibab descent with one night at Bright Angel area with a group of 2 and started around 6:25 AM. Weather: Clear skies gave us big temperature swings between rim and river. Trail: Main corridor tread was firm and easy to follow all day. Water: We treated every water stop as optional and stayed over-prepared. We kept the permit handy and it saved time when someone asked to see it. Overall it was a smooth day. If you are on this route soon: set a turnaround time, keep a dry layer handy, and do not count on service. Small stuff that helps: If the trail is muddy, slow down instead of fighting it. Have a turnaround time before you get committed to the hardest section. Scorecard (out of 5): overall 5, difficulty 5, scenery 5, conditions 5. Tips - If the trail is muddy, slow down instead of fighting it. - Keep snacks accessible so breaks stay short and clean. - Have a turnaround time before you get committed to the hardest section.
