Grand Canyon Rim to River field notes
- Crowds: moderate.
- Crew: by myself.
- Start: 5:10 AM.
- Route: North Kaibab to inner canyon camp with a next-day climb out.
- Weather: Wind on exposed ridges eased after sunrise and made pacing simple.
- Trail: Upper switchbacks held some icy patches before sun hit them.
- Water: We treated every water stop as optional and stayed over-prepared.
- Wildlife: Spotted bighorn sheep on lower sections near the river.
- Gear that helped: Work gloves, Neoprene socks, Electrolyte mix, Trekking poles
TLDR: start early, keep water simple, and do not wing the map.
