The Wave: blunt notes Do not overthink it, but do not wing the basics either. Route: Wire Pass route with waypoint checks at major slickrock turns. Start: 6:00 AM. Crowds: crowded. Weather and trail: Wind stayed mild and made exposed sections feel easier. Sand sections were soft but easy to follow with track lines. Water: No on-route water, so we packed the full day carry. Best advice: If the trail is muddy, slow down instead of fighting it. Mistake I see a lot: people start late and then rush the exit. Ratings: overall 5/5, difficulty 5/5, scenery 5/5, conditions 5/5. Tips - Have a turnaround time before you get committed to the hardest section. - If the trail is muddy, slow down instead of fighting it. - Carry a small trash bag. You will find micro-trash. - Pack a dry layer even if the forecast looks perfect.
