Logistics for GC Backcountry We started around 5:10 AM and the early start made the whole day easier. Route we took: Bright Angel down to river camps with a South Kaibab exit. Permit check: had it pulled up before we hit the busy spots. Conditions were straightforward: Clear skies gave us big temperature swings between rim and river. Stone steps were dry by mid-morning but still rough on knees. We treated every water stop as optional and stayed over-prepared. Overall it was a smooth day. If you want less stress: Carry a small trash bag. You will find micro-trash. Scorecard (out of 5): overall 5, difficulty 5, scenery 4, conditions 5.
