Went minimal on Grand Canyon Rim to River. Here is what made the cut. We went North Kaibab to inner canyon camp with a next-day climb out starting at 4:45 AM. Clear skies gave us big temperature swings between rim and river. Stone steps were dry by mid-morning but still rough on knees. Gear that worked: Electrolytes, Wide-brim hat, Wind shell, Sun hoodie. Traction and poles were useful for the first shaded switchbacks. Ratings: 4 overall, 3 difficulty, 5 scenery. Already planning the next one. Quick notes: - Know where water is. - Pack a dry layer. - Do not trust parking to work out. - Carry a small trash bag.
