Safety and comfort notes for Grand Canyon Rim to River A few notes from our Grand Canyon Rim to River day. We went North Kaibab to inner canyon camp with a next-day climb out with a 5 people and started around 4:45 AM. Weather: Wind on exposed ridges eased after sunrise and made pacing simple. Trail: Main corridor tread was firm and easy to follow all day. Water: Tap lines moved quickly, still worth filling before exposed climbs. Permit check was low drama. Screenshot + ID and we were on our way. Nothing surprising, in a good way. If you are on this route soon: set a turnaround time, keep a dry layer handy, and do not count on service. Small stuff that helps: Pack a dry layer even if the forecast looks perfect. If the trail is muddy, slow down instead of fighting it. Ratings: overall 5/5, difficulty 4/5, scenery 5/5, conditions 5/5. Tips - Pack a dry layer even if the forecast looks perfect. - If the trail is muddy, slow down instead of fighting it. - Take photos of the permit and save them offline. - Poles help more than people admit on slick or steep exits.
