Late start, late finish. The Subway in the evening light.
We went Left Fork trailhead to the lower Subway section starting at 6:00 AM. Cloud cover held until late morning and kept the slickrock from baking. Route finding was straightforward if we stayed on cairns and creek turns.
Midday light was harsh but the shadows added drama.
Preparation is everything.
Quick notes:
- Test new gear before the trip.
- Extra socks change everything.
- Backup headlamp batteries.
- Bring the rain layer even if clear.
- Turnaround time is not negotiable.
