GC Backcountry: blunt notes Do not overthink it, but do not wing the basics either. Route: North Kaibab to inner canyon camp with a next-day climb out. Start: 6:50 AM. Crowds: light. Weather and trail: Wind on exposed ridges eased after sunrise and made pacing simple. Main corridor tread was firm and easy to follow all day. Water: Water points were open, but we still carried backup capacity. Best advice: Take photos of the permit and save them offline. Mistake I see a lot: people start late and then rush the exit. Scorecard (out of 5): overall 5, difficulty 4, scenery 4, conditions 5. Tips - Carry a small trash bag. You will find micro-trash. - If the trail is muddy, slow down instead of fighting it. - Take photos of the permit and save them offline. - Bring one extra liter if you are unsure about water. - Keep snacks accessible so breaks stay short and clean.
