Logistics for Grand Canyon Rim to River
We started around 5:35 AM and the early start made the whole day easier.
Route we took: South Kaibab descent with one night at Bright Angel area.
Permit check: had it pulled up before we hit the busy spots.
Conditions were straightforward: Clear skies gave us big temperature swings between rim and river. Main corridor tread was firm and easy to follow all day. Tap lines moved quickly, still worth filling before exposed climbs.
Overall it was a smooth day.
If you want less stress: Carry a small trash bag. You will find micro-trash.
Ratings (1-5): overall 4, difficulty 4, scenery 5, conditions 5.
Tips
- Carry a small trash bag. You will find micro-trash.
- If the trail is muddy, slow down instead of fighting it.
- Take photos of the permit and save them offline.
