Logistics for GC Backcountry
We started around 6:25 AM and the early start made the whole day easier.
Route we took: Bright Angel down to river camps with a South Kaibab exit.
We kept the permit handy and it saved time when someone asked to see it.
Conditions were straightforward: Wind on exposed ridges eased after sunrise and made pacing simple. Upper switchbacks held some icy patches before sun hit them. Water points were open, but we still carried backup capacity.
Nothing surprising, in a good way.
If you want less stress: Pack a dry layer even if the forecast looks perfect.
