Here is what worked (and what did not) on Grand Canyon Rim to River.
We went South Kaibab descent w/ one night at Bright Angel area starting at 6:50 AM. Clear skies gave us big temp swings between rim and river. Upper switchbacks held some icy patches before sun hit them.
Gear that worked: Puffy, Crampons, Soft flasks.
Sun shirt and electrolyte packets carried the second half of the day.
Would do again in a heartbeat.
