Logistics for The Subway We started around 6:00 AM and the early start made the whole day easier. Route we took: Out-and-back through Left Fork from Wildcat Canyon side. No surprises on the permit side, just do not count on cell service. Conditions were straightforward: Wind stayed light, which made the river sections easier to handle. Route finding was straightforward if we stayed on cairns and creek turns. Water was running and cold, so we packed extra socks for the exit. It felt steady from start to finish. If you want less stress: Start earlier than you think if you want space on the first mile. Ratings: overall 4/5, difficulty 5/5, scenery 5/5, conditions 5/5. Tips - Keep snacks accessible so breaks stay short and clean. - Start earlier than you think if you want space on the first mile. - Have a turnaround time before you get committed to the hardest section. - Bring one extra liter if you are unsure about water. - Poles help more than people admit on slick or steep exits.
