Base weight check before Big Bend Backcountry: We went Chisos Basin entry with East Rim side mileage starting at 5:35 AM. Dry air and steady sun meant layers changed fast after sunrise. No major blowdown, just loose gravel in steep sections. Gear that worked: Sun hoodie, Electrolytes. A simple buff pulled double duty for dust and sun. Overall 4/5. Difficulty 4/5. Scenery 5/5. Bottom line: Wave at other hikers. Just show up ready.
