Big Bend Backcountry: blunt notes
Do not overthink it, but do not wing the basics either.
Route: Dodson and Blue Creek combo with a one-night camp. Start: 6:50 AM. Crowds: light.
Weather and trail: Wind on ridges was steady but never pushed us off pace. No major blowdown, just loose gravel in steep sections.
Water: We treated every known source as uncertain and carried extra.
Best advice: Download your map before you lose service.
Ratings (1-5): overall 5, difficulty 3, scenery 4, conditions 3.
