A few notes from our Big Bend Backcountry day. We went Dodson and Blue Creek combo with a one-night camp with a group of 2 and started around 5:35 AM. Weather: Cool morning temps made long exposed miles feel manageable. Trail: No major blowdown, just loose gravel in steep sections. Water: Cache strategy helped us keep pack weight under control. We kept the permit handy and it saved time when someone asked to see it. Everything worked. That is the whole point. The short version: start early and keep layers simple. If I did it again, I would: Bring one extra liter if you are unsure about water. Ratings (1-5): overall 4, difficulty 4, scenery 4, conditions 4.
