Went minimal on big bend backcountry. Here is what made the cut. We went dodson and blue creek combo with a one-night camp starting at 5:10 am. Cool morning temps made long exposed miles feel manageable. Tread was dry and clear with a few loose rock corners. Gear that worked: wide-brim hat, hiking boots, approach shoes. Light gloves helped on chilly starts before the sun popped. Do your homework first.
