Animal encounters made Big Bend Backcountry special. We went Outer Mountain Loop sections from the Chisos side starting at 6:25 AM. Cool morning temps made long exposed miles feel manageable. No major blowdown, just loose gravel in steep sections. Wildlife/nature notes: Bird activity near camp was high around sunrise. Bottom line: Study the route at home. Check conditions before you go.
