Conditions played out exactly as forecast on Big Bend Backcountry. We went Chisos Basin entry w/ East Rim side mileage starting at 6:00 AM. Wind on ridges was steady but never pushed us off pace. No major blowdown, just loose gravel in steep sections. Ratings: 4 overall, 3 difficulty, 4 scenery. Short version: Keep music in your ears only. Days like this are why I hike. Tips - Move over for faster hikers. - First aid kit is mandatory. - Know the signs of altitude. - Keep music in your ears only. - Turnaround time is not negotiable.
