Animal encounters made Big Bend Backcountry special. We went Dodson and Blue Creek combo w/ a one-night camp starting at 5:10 AM. Cool morning temps made long exposed miles feel manageable. Route stayed obvious, w/ minor wash marks in low spots. Wildlife/nature notes: Tracks were everywhere, but no close wildlife encounters. The boring prep stuff matters.
