Just got back from Big Bend Backcountry and wrote this while it is still fresh. We went Outer Mountain Loop sections from the Chisos side with a group of 6 and started around 4:45 AM.
Weather: Cool morning temps made long exposed miles feel manageable. Trail: No major blowdown, just loose gravel in steep sections. Water: Water planning mattered most since natural sources were limited.
Permit check was low drama. Screenshot + ID and we were on our way.
I would do this again without changing much.
The part that surprised me was how much wind changed our pace.
Gear note: Light gloves helped on chilly starts before the sun popped.
Wildlife: Tracks were everywhere, but no close wildlife encounters.
Ratings: overall 5/5, difficulty 5/5, scenery 4/5, conditions 5/5.

General
- •Start earlier than you think if you want space on the first mile.
- •Bring one extra liter if you are unsure about water.
- •Have a turnaround time before you get committed to the hardest section.
