Been doing Big Bend Backcountry for years. This time:
We went Chisos Basin entry w/ East Rim side mileage starting at 6:50 AM. Dry air and steady sun meant layers changed fast after sunrise. No major blowdown, just loose gravel in steep sections.
Quick scores: overall=4, difficulty=4, views=5
Preparation is everything.
Tips
- Physical map as backup.
- Mark key waypoints.
- Trust the cairns.
- Know the bail-out options.
