Gear notes from Big Bend Backcountry
Quick report from Big Bend Backcountry (Big Bend National Park). We went Dodson and Blue Creek combo with a one-night camp with a 6 people and started around 6:50 AM.
Weather: Dry air and steady sun meant layers changed fast after sunrise. Trail: Route stayed obvious, with minor wash marks in low spots. Water: Cache strategy helped us keep pack weight under control.
No surprises on the permit side, just do not count on cell service.
This one felt like a win from the first mile.
What I would bring again: Offline map downloaded, Headlamp with fresh batteries, Work gloves
One thing I would not skip: Bring one extra liter if you are unsure about water.
Ratings (1-5): overall 4, difficulty 4, scenery 5, conditions 4.
