Last updated: 2026-06-16 --- The type of incident is Burned Area Emergency Response and involves the following unit(s) Channel Islands National Park. --- State: California --- Coordinates: Latitude: 33° 55 2 Longitude: 120° 5 10 --- NOTE: All fire perimeters and points are approximations. --- Incident Overview: Current Conditions:On 6/16, the Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team presented their recommendations and funding specifications to Channel Islands National Park staff. These emergency stabilization recommendations will will help park staff prioritize actions needed to reduce risks including erosion, flooding, hazardous trees, and impacts to sensitive resources. Using information collected during their evaluations, the team identified immediate threats to life, safety, property, and critical natural and cultural resources that may be caused by the fire. While the park will implement time-sensitive projects over the summer, many projects will last for years, as the island recovers from the fire. Closures:Santa Rosa Island is closed to all day and overnight use through at least June 30, 2026, due to the wildfire. All Water Canyon Campground reservations have been cancelled through this date and visitors have been notified by email. Campground reservation holders with bookings through August 14, 2026, have also been informed that the wildfire may affect their stay.
