It is primarily burning east of the Big Sur Coastline and into the rugged Ventana Wilderness.  The fire is burning within the 2016 Soberanes Fire, with a mix of older fire killed fuels, and much younger regrowth.  It was last mapped at 25,357 acres and 27% contained.CURRENT SITUATION: Fire activity on the Timber Fire remained low because of favorable temperatures and humidity levels as crews strengthened and improved containment line around the perimeter of the fire.Rappelers will be inserted into the Pick Creek area tomorrow to establish a helispot in order to allow firefighters better access in the steep, rugged terrain. If successful, handcrews will be working directly along the fire’s edge in an effort to build further containment line.Drivers should remain cautious while driving on Highway 1 this holiday weekend as there is a heavy presence of fire personnel on the roadway.WEATHER: Mostly sunny conditions will develop after lingering morning clouds, with highs ranging from the mid‑60s to low‑70s and reaching the lower 80s near Arroyo Seco and Indians Road. Humidity will drop to 30-40% this afternoon, locally as low as 30% in the east, with overnight humidity recoveries reaching 70% in most areas of the fire. A quiet fire weather pattern stays in place through the evening, with a warming and drying trend expected past tonight. ROAD CLOSURES: Road closures on Highway 1 in the Big Sur area have been reduced. Travelers are encouraged to drive cautiously as traffic increases during Labor Day weekend. To support Plaskett Fire emergency response efforts, Highway 1 remains closed between Pacific Valley at Post Mile 16 and Monterey/San Luis Obispo County line at Post Mile 0.0.  Please avoid that area and use US 101 as an alternate route.     https://roads.dot.ca.gov/?roadnumber=1 or https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/EVACUATIONS AND CLOSURES:  Evacuation warnings and orders are in effect.
