Last updated: 2026-09-05 --- The type of incident is Wildfire and involves the following unit(s) BLM Northern CA District. --- State: California --- Coordinates: Latitude: 41ยฐ 37 49 Longitude: 119ยฐ 54 58 --- NOTE: All fire perimeters and points are approximations. --- Incident Overview: The S-1 Vya Fire was reported at 8:59 p.m. on Aug. 24, 2026. A Type 3 Incident Command Team along with local firefighting resources conducted fire suppression operations during the initial attack and extended attack phase of the fire. High winds and dry fuels contributed to the fire's rapid growth. California Interagency Incident Management Team 2 assumed command of the incident at 6 p.m. Aug. 27, 2026.The fire has impacted local roads including highway 34, grazing allotments, along with Sage-Grouse habitat. Evacuations remain in place due to fire impact on structures, additional structures remain threatened including the community of Vya. Fire is burning on both private and BLM lands. The fire was threatening Massacre Rim Wilderness Study Area and East Fork High Rock Canyon Wilderness.
