How to book the campsites

Book on the Grampians Peaks Trail interactive map booker. Pick a start date, check availability, then choose the campground for night 1 with the number of guests and campsites. Add the next campground, and keep going until your itinerary is complete. Then book and pay. Parks Victoria says the confirmation email arrives within 2 hours.

Parks Victoria's booking changes now let you hike in either direction, with north to south recommended, start at more points along the trail, skip a campground to walk a longer day, and add rest days in Halls Gap. It does not recommend skipping a campground unless you are a very experienced and very fit hiker. The trip planner also books two set options: the 3-day, 2-night north section (Gar and Werdug) and the full 13 days north to south.

The huts at Gar and Werdug are for Licensed Tour Operators only, so independent hikers book the campsites.

When campsites are released

Parks Victoria releases camping bookings four times a year, for stays about 6 to 9 months ahead. On busy release days a Lobby opens before 10 am. At 10 am people in the Lobby are moved at random into a Virtual Waiting Room, so arriving early in the Lobby gives no advantage.

The last release covered stays from 1 March to 30 June 2027. It opened at 10 am over three days, 28 to 30 September 2026, and multi-day adventures were released on the third day, Wednesday 30 September. The schedule does not name the next release yet.

The booking system is live, so a cancelled site goes back on sale straight away. Parks Victoria suggests checking again closer to your dates.

Fees, cancellations and group size

Walking the trail is free. The 2026-27 schedule lists A$54.80 a night at each of the 11 hike-in campgrounds, the same in peak, shoulder and off-peak seasons, or A$49.30 with a concession card. From 1 July 2027 the schedule lists A$56.30 (A$50.70 concession). At A$54.80, the 11 campground nights of the full trail add up to A$602.80, before your night in Halls Gap. The FAQ prices the camps per tent pad: a standard 3.5 m by 3.5 m pad takes up to two people.

If you cancel 30 days or more before the first day of your trip, you get a 100% refund. From 8 to 29 days out you get 50%, and inside 8 days nothing. You can move a camping booking to another date or campground up to your check-in time, if there is space, but a changed booking cannot be refunded.

You can book up to three campsites in the same campground in one transaction. Schools and independent groups can walk and camp on the trail in groups of up to 16 people, depending on site availability.

Water and camp rules

Every water tank on the trail is untreated, so carry a way to treat it. Parks Victoria asks each hiker to carry at least 3 to 4 litres a day. Campfires are not permitted. The GPT 100 Miler running event uses the trail from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 November 2026, so expect busy trailheads and campgrounds and short delays on those days.
