Overland Track Booking 2027: Opening Day, Fees and Huts

How opening day works

From 8:00 am you can join the online waiting room through the link on the Parks Tasmania site. At 9:00 am, everyone already in the waiting room is placed in the queue at random. Joining after 9:00 am puts you at the end. Phone bookings are not available on opening day.

A booking covers the whole walk, so only the departure date needs availability. Up to 34 independent walkers can depart on any date in the booking season, all walking north to south. There is no waitlist.

What the fee covers

During the booking season the fee covers park entry for the length of your walk and the shuttle from the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre to the track start. It does not cover getting to Cradle Mountain, or the ferry from Narcissus to Cynthia Bay, which you book separately.

Huts, tents and stoves

The huts are not booked. You carry a tent anyway, in case you do not reach the next hut or the huts are full. The huts have no cooking equipment, so you bring your own fuel stove and utensils. Our gear page for the Overland Track lists what Parks Tasmania says to bring.

Changes and cancellations

Only the person who made the booking can cancel, by emailing overlandtrack@parks.tas.gov.au. Refunds go back to the card used. Cancellation fees apply and are set out in Section 4 of the booking terms.
