Thorsborne Trail Pass: Group Size, Nights and Release Dates

The Thorsborne Trail on Hinchinbrook Island is booked with a single trail pass on the Queensland National Parks Booking Service. You choose a start date, the number of hikers (up to 6) and the number of nights (up to 5). You do not book individual camps. The hiking season runs from 1 March to 31 December, and the booking page says bookings are released at scheduled times, without giving the dates.

How the trail pass works

The booking page gives four steps. Select your hike start date. Select the number of people in your hiking party. Select the number of nights and days you want, and choose Book now. Then complete the transaction.

With the pass there is no requirement to hike in a particular direction, or to decide on or book individual hiker camps along the trail. Queensland Parks says this lets hikers travel at a pace that suits their circumstances and the weather.

Group size, nights and the trail

To give as many people as possible the opportunity to enjoy the hike, the maximum length of stay is 5 nights and the maximum group size is 6 hikers. The booking page says most hikers complete it comfortably in 3 nights and 4 days.

The page describes the trail as 32 km (19.9 mi) of Class 5 walking track that typically takes 4 days and 3 nights. Camping on the trail without a valid permit, or outside your nominated hiking dates, is an offence.

The season and when bookings are released

The Thorsborne Trail and its hiking season operate between 1 March and 31 December each year. The booking page says bookings for the season are released at scheduled times before and during the hiking season, and links a hiking-seasons page on the Queensland Parks website for the dates.

That page sits on a Queensland government site that we could not read, so this guide gives no release date for 2027. Read the hiking-seasons page itself before you plan around a date.

Changing your booking

To change the number of nights, cancel the booking and make a new one with the right number of nights. To change the number of hikers or the start date, use the modify option in your account. A modification works only when the new dates have enough availability.
