Colchuck open all September, plus Rim-to-Rim spots on Sept 5
What dropped this week
Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim had three separate openings this week: Sept 5, Oct 9, and Dec 2. If you've been waiting on a fall date, Sept 5 is close enough to move fast on. Colchuck Zone in the Enchantments opened up across every single day of September, 1st through 30th. That's a big stretch of availability for a permit that's usually locked down. Dinosaur National Monument saw availability changes on both the Yampa and Gates of Lodore, with Nov 1 and Nov 30 dates opening on each. Mt. St. Helens climbing has a Sept 12 date open now, Mt. Langley picked up Sept 15, and the Middle Fork Salmon has a Sept 24 opening.
Open right now
Permits currently showing real availability: Mt. Langley (Sequoia & Kings Canyon), St. Helens climbing, Lost Coast Trail (King Range), Grand Gulch (Cedar Mesa), Bishop Pass and Kearsarge Pass out of Inyo National Forest, The Subway (Zion), and Druid Arch (Canyonlands, Needles district). Worth checking dates directly if any of these are on your list.
This week's data insight
Looking at when availability changes have landed this month, Monday is the clear leader with 279 openings, followed by Tuesday at 265. Wednesday is the slowest day by far at 142. If you're refreshing manually instead of using alerts, early week is when the odds tilt in your favor.
