Linville Gorge splits its weekend camping quota in two, and this is the smaller, later half. Thirty percent of the 50 nightly spots, 15 people, are withheld from the month-ahead sale and released each Wednesday at 10 a.m. Eastern for the weekend immediately following.
That is a genuinely useful design for a place three hours from Charlotte and Asheville. You can watch the forecast on Tuesday, book on Wednesday, and be on the rim Friday evening. It is also a small pool, so it goes quickly.
Everything else matches the main permit: free, $6 Recreation.gov fee, no campsite to reserve, 10 people per group, two nights maximum, and required only on Friday and Saturday nights plus holiday Sundays between May 1 and October 31.
