ANNA CREEK CABIN

Overview Anna Creek Cabin is located 30 miles south of the town of Hungry Horse, perched above Hungry Horse Reservoir with sweeping views of the reservoir and the Great Bear Wilderness. Winter - Access road not maintained/plowed for wheeled-vehicle travel. Plan on winter access via a 24-mile snowmobile ride or other over-the-snow vehicle on an ungroomed route. The cabin provides a private setting to enjoy the recreation opportunities along the west side of Hungry Horse Reservoir. Recreation Summer - The cabin location provides a base to explore the numerous recreation opportunities along the west side of Hungry Horse Reservoir. Visitors can access the water within a short drive to Graves Bay, Graves Creek or Handkerchief Lake for fishing, swimming or boating. Access to hiking trails along pioneer ridge or the east side of Jewel Basin are in close proximity to the cabin. Other popular activities such as driving for pleasure, berry picking, wildlife watching, and fishing are abundant in the area around the cabin. Winter - The cabin provides a base for ample winter reacreation oppurtunities in the Swan Mountain Range. Please familarize yourself with the free winter over-the-snow maps available online, at the Hungry Horse Ranger Station, and at the cabin. Facilities This single story cabin is equipped with a propane cook stove/oven, 2 propane heaters, propane lights and accessible vault toilet. Indoor accommodations sleep up to 12 people on one double bed, two twin beds, two double/twin bunk beds, plus two twin roll out trundle beds. Outside, enjoy the campfire pit with barbecue grate and the deck on the south side of the cabin.No drinking water or electricity are available. Guests should bring plenty of water, bedding, food, flashlights, basic camping gear, tools to gather outdoor firewood, among other necessities. There is not a wood stove available at the cabin. Natural Features The cabin is set up above the West Side Hungry Horse Reservoir road providing privacy and scenic views. The west side of the cabin and large parking area backs up to the forest with Anna creek flowing through. The east side of the cabin offers open views of the Great Bear Wilderness. The site offers a nice mix of shade and sun. Nearby Attractions Summer - Water access to Hungry Horse Reservoir, Graves Creek and Handkerchief Lake are a short drive away. See maps. Bear Creek Campground - MT

Overview Bear Creek Campground is a First Come - First Served facility located at the base of the western slope of the Madison Range in southwest Montana. It's part of an administrative site that also includes the Bear Creek and Bear Creek Bunkhouse rental cabins and a trailhead for entry to the Lee Metcalf Wilderness Area. The small campground features 12 campsites, 6 on each side of the creek. The six sites north of the creek include facilities for horses/stock, while those south of the creek are non-horse use only. This is the only campground on the west side of the Madison mountain range so it can be expected to be crowded and busy during hunting season. There is very little firewood available anywhere near the campground. Recreation Hiking, horseback riding and hunting are very popular activities by visitors to this campground and parking may be difficult to find during peak season. The Middle Fork and Trail Fork trailhead is located only steps away. Because the trails lead to designated Wilderness, no motorized or mechanized use is allowed on the trails. The trailhead is the starting point for those climbing Sphinx Mountain. From December 2 until noon of May 15, the Wildlife Management Area just north of the campground is closed to all entry except to those who stay strictly on the trail and are only passing through to Forest lands. It is open for recreational use the remainder of the year. Facilities The campground will be undergoing improvement installations in the spring/early summer of 2023. Each campsite will have a parking site, picnic table and fire ring. There are two centrally located water hydrants, with water usually being available fro mid-May through September and a centrally located bear box for food storage. There are two SST outhouses, one on each side of the creek. Campsites 7 - 12, on the north side of the creek, are equipped with hitchrails and corrals for horses. Horses are not permitted at Campsites 1 - 6. Additional corrals are planned to be installed at the trailhead but there may not be a corral guaranteed for each campsite. Natural Features At the base of the Madison mountain range, the campground is situated in a draw between hills on the edge of the National Forest. The Lee Metcalf Wilderness is immediately to the east and a State wildlife management area to the north. The trailhead, at the site, provides access to the Middle Fork and Trail Fork trails, as well as access to ascend Sphinx Mountain, a prominant peak in the range. Most campsites are shaded by Douglas fir and aspen trees. Nearby Attractions The Lee Metcalf Wilderness is adjacent to the campground. The west entrance to Yellowstone National Park is about 70 miles to the southeast. Lewis and Clark State Caverns is about 60 miles to the north. Contact Info This location is unstaffed. It is 13 miles to groceries in Plains, Montana from this locationNatural Features This campground is located in the canyon bottom along the Clark Fork River. The site is adjacent to the highway and across the road from the river, and forested with Douglas-fir, ponderosa pine and western larch providing abundant shade. Fishing opportunities are available at the river. The Iron Mountain Trailhead #242 also known as the historic Wagon Road Trail are located near the campground. Kootenai National Forest, Montana

MINTON PEAK LOOKOUT

Overview Minton Peak Lookout is situated in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 5,351 feet in the Kootenai National Forest. The original lookout was constructed in 1932, replaced in 1968, and completely rebuilt in 2011. The mountain was named after Col. David Minton, an Ohio cavalryman who homesteaded (and is buried) near the mouth of Minton Creek. The lookout is typically open from late June through mid-October and is accessible by car. This rustic retreat offers a few amenities, but guests should pack in most of their own supplies and gear.Recreation Mountain roads and scenic trails provide access to explore the area.Facilities The 14x14 foot cabin sits on a five foot tower. The lookout has windows on all sides and is encircled by a catwalk. The cabin sleeps four people and is equipped with two twin size beds with mattresses. Other amenities include a table and chairs, wood stove for heat, two-burner cooktop (propane not provided), broom and dustpan. Firewood is provided. An outhouse with a vault toilet and a campfire ring are located outside. The lookout does not have electricity or water. Guests should bring enough water for drinking, cooking and cleaning. Items such as cooking gear, bedding, lanterns, matches, extra toilet paper, trash bags, dish soap and towels are not available. Natural Features The lookout sits five feet off the ground and is surrounded by an evergreen forest. It offers panoramic views of the Clark Fork Valley, the Bitterroot Mountains to the west and the Cabinet Range to the east. This is an ideal vantage point to enjoy sunrises and sunsets and gaze out at starry skies on clear nights.

TIMBERLANE CAMPGROUND

Overview Timberlane Campground group site is located along a forest creek and in an area thick with towering trees. Several hiking trails exist in the area. The group pavilion accommodates up to 100 people and is set up for reunions and receptions. Its a great place to enjoy the Kootenai National Forest.Recreation Horseshoe pits, a volleyball court and a large, grassy play field are available at the campground. Pipe Creek allows visitors to enjoy fishing and swimming in the clear mountain water. The campground and picnic area are surrounded by a 1-mile hiking trail. Visitors also enjoy scenic drives, biking and watching for wildlife along any of the roadways in the area. Pipe Creek Road heads deep into the surrounding forest.Facilities The Timberlane group stie has a 20' x 20' shelter, with picnic tables, a grill, and one 15 amp electric plug in. If you need to power anything in excess of 15 amps, you will need to bring a generator. The site provides vault toilets. Natural Features The Timberlane campground and group site is located along Pipe Creek in the Kootenai National Forest of northwestern Montana. It lies in a mixed conifer forest at an elevation of about 2,600 feet. A variety of wildlife make its home in the area. The area is historically significant, once a former habitat and hunting ground for the Kootenai Tribe. Certain parts of the forest remain sacred to the tribe, including a location on Pipe Creek that contains soft, multicolored stone, which was used to carve bowls for tobacco pipes used in ceremonies. Pipe Creek used to produce stones of several different colors. Nearby Attractions Timberlane Campground is near the David Thompson Historic Route, the 67-mile Lake Koocanusa Scenic Byway and the Scenic Tour of the Kootenai River bike route. The town of Libby is nearby, making the campground a perfect location for overnight stays during the wildly popular Logger Days, various car club events and Nordicfest.

LUPINE SHELTER

Overview Lupine Shelter is a picnicking facility open year-round, however it is most heavily visited during the winter, when it is used by snowmobilers as a warming hut. It is an excellent location to have a picnic or a family gathering any time of year.Recreation In winter, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities in the snow-covered meadow surrounding the shelter. During the spring, summer and fall, a variety of hiking and mountain biking trails can be found in the area. Facilities The day-use shelter boasts a beautiful large rock fireplace, lots of window and two tables with chairs inside. Guests are encouraged to clean up after themselves with the provided broom and dust pan. Additional picnic tables are available outside the shelter. Accessible vault toilets are provided. No drinking water is available, nor is trash collection.Natural Features The shelter was built in the early 1990s, as a replica of a Civilian Conservation Corps-style building. It is situated in a grassy meadow surrounded by a forest of mature pine trees at an elevation of 7,600 feet. In spring and early summer, vivid wildflowers color the meadow. A variety of birds and wildlife make their home in the area. Nearby Attractions The closest town is Wise River, Montana, which is about 25 miles north of the picnic area.

MAGRUDER RANGERS HOUSE

Overview Magruder Rangers House is one of seven buildings still used by Forest Service trail crews and wilderness rangers. The rental cabin is available from early June to mid-October. It provides visitors with access to two designated wilderness areas, plenty of opportunities for sightseeing and exploration and a comfortably equipped place to stay. The Ranger Station is open to the general public and the main entrance/exit road runs by the rental cabin. There are several trails which leave from the Ranger Station area so you can choose your destination and come back to relax in a cozy cabin. Recreation Hunting, fishing and hiking are popular activities enjoyed by visitors to the area. The adjacent Scenic and Wild Selway River and a variety of nearby mountain streams are well known for trout fishing. Anglers might see bullhead, rainbow, steelhead and cutthroat trout, as well as mountain whitefish. There are a variety of trails that traverse the area. They are open to hiking and horseback riding. Bicycles and motorized travel are not allowed within wilderness boundaries but are allowed on roads.Facilities The Magruder Ranger House is a historical cabin and along with six other buildings which were at one time part of the Deep Creek Ranger Station and later the Magruder Ranger Station. The two-story, five-room log cabin has two bedrooms, a living area, a kitchen and an indoor bathroom. It has beds with mattresses, as well as futons, to sleep up to 10 people. A wood stove for heat is available in the basement of the cabin and firewood is provided. The kitchen is equipped with a table and chairs, propane refrigerator, stove and propane lights. Cooking and eating utensils are available, as well as various cleaning equipment. During the summer, hot and cold running water is available for the kitchen and bathroom, which has a flush toilet and a shower. The water system is turned off for fall and winter. Water is turned on from June through September 30. An outdoor vault toilet is provided. Guests will need to bring their own bedding, towels, food, matches, garbage bags and toilet paper, among other necessities. It is required that guests replenish the cut kindling supply and clean the cabin prior to leaving. The cabin is accessible by four-wheel drive and high-clearance vehicles. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety. Please be aware the access is through a forested area where trees may fall across roads and trails anytime and there is no cell phone coverage. Livestock are not permitted at the Magruder Cabin compound. Natural Features The house is located on the Selway River, between the 1.2-million-acre Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness and the 2.3-million-acre Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness areas, at an elevation of about 4,000 feet. It was once the residence of the district ranger and his family. Most of the area is covered by coniferous forests, with open meadows near the river. Because of its size, the wilderness provides a secluded habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. Populations of mountain lions and grey wolves live in the area, as well as coyote, fox, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk, moose, deer and black bears (learn about outdoor safety). The road was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and remains much the same now as it did then. The "Deep Creek Ranger Station" as it was once known, now called the Magruder Ranger Station is a step back in time. Explore the Selway River Road to Indian Creek where you will find interpretive information and the remains of the Indian Creek Hatching Channel.Meander down to the end of the road to explore the beautiful Paradise Campground and White Cap Creek. The Selway River put in is the start of adventures for lucky whitewater permit holders from May 15 through July 31. Those lucky enough to draw the permits are anxiously awaiting their adventure.

HIGH RYE CABIN

Overview High Rye Cabin is a quaint place to stay, ideally situated for exploring the northern Fleecer Mountains. An abundance of recreational activities are available in this scenic area. The cabin was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps around 1919 and is located in the historic mining district of German Gulch. It was used as an administrative site until the 1940s, when it was opened to the public. The cabin can be accessed by vehicle; however, during the fall, alternative resources may be required to reach the cabin. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.Recreation Fishing and big game hunting are popular activities enjoyed by visitors to the area. Nearby mountain creeks and streams provide opportunities for bait and fly fishing. Proper licensing is required to fish or hunt in Montana. There is a variety of hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails that are easily accessed from the cabin into the surrounding forest. Off-road vehicles and motorcycles are also allowed in the area, but must be properly permitted and licensed to be on trails and roads.Facilities The 2-room cabin is equipped with bunk beds that can sleep up to 4 people. A table with chairs and a wood stove are also provided. Cooking can be done on the flat stovetop. Basic cooking and eating utensils are provided, as well as minimal cleaning equipment.Firewood is sometimes available, but it is not guaranteed. An axe is provided. An outhouse with a vault toilet is located outside the cabin. A corral is available for horses. Weed-free certified hay is required.Electricity and potable water are not available at the cabin. Guests will need to bring their own water for drinking, cooking and cleaning purposes. Water can also be taken from the nearby creek, but it must be treated prior to using for drinking or cooking.Guests should bring bedding, pillows, lanterns or flashlights, matches, food, soap, towels and other necessities. Guests are required to take out all garbage and must bring their own garbage bags. The cabin must also be cleaned prior to leaving. Please remember that High Rye Cabin is considered a recreational area and shooting is not permitted around the cabin. Check out time is 11am, check in time is 2pm. Natural Features The cabin is situated in an evergreen forest in the northern Fleecer Mountains. This area features wildlife-rich highlands and wetlands. Alpine creeks and streams offer ideal habitat for a variety of fish. The region is home to a variety of wildlife, including elk, mule deer, moose, black bear, coyotes, wolves, and a variety of birds and small mammals (learn more about bear safety). The Fleecers provide a year-round range for elk and deer, and large populations winter on the nearby Fleecer Mountain or on sagebrush slopes in the southeast portion of the landscape.

Ranger Creek Recreation Area

Overview Ranger Creek Group Campground is located just off the Bighorn Scenic Byway (U.S. Highway 14) at an elevation of 7,500 feet. The Bighorn National Forest offers a wide variety of activities, including hiking, fishing, scenic driving and a number of historic sites. The administering organization is Gallatin Canyon Campgrounds; e-mail: gccampgrounds13@gmail.comRecreation Scenic off-road driving is available on Battle Creek Road to Medicine Lodge Lake, Ranger Creek Road to Shell Reservoir, Hunt Mountain Road and the Burgess Overlook Jeep trail. Diverse hiking opportunities vary from loop trails to treks along creeks and over mountain peaks including access to the Cloud Peak Wilderness. The Adelaide Trail, for hiking and horseback riding is nearby, providing access to Shell Creek and the Shell Creek Trail. Many creeks, lakes and ponds dot the region, offering some of the best trout fly-fishing in the state.Facilities The campground offers one large group site that can accommodate up to 150 people for overnight camping or day-use picnicking. A shelter covers several picnic and serving tables, and a campfire ring and grill are on-site. Accessible vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided. The nearest dump station is 20 miles away at Burgess Junction.Natural Features The campground is situated on the banks of Ranger Creek in the Bighorn Mountains, where craggy granite peaks rise over 13,000 feet above sea level. The area is forested with a mix of pine and aspen trees. An abundance of wildlife lives in the area. Nearby Attractions The Shell Falls Visitor Center, at the overlook of Shell Falls, is about 8 miles west. Burgess Junction Visitor Center is 20 miles north. Both centers offer interpretive trails, scenic views and educational displays about natural features like flora and fauna, and area history. Elk View Inn and other nearby lodges provide guided horseback riding and fishing adventures, off-road vehicle rentals and fishing supplies, as well as dining options, showers and general stores. The Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite, near the town of Shell, is the largest of its kind in the state and one of only a few in the world from the Middle Jurassic Period. The tracks found here are approximately 167 million years old.Charges & Cancellations Refunds: Refund requests made through www.recreation.gov will be charged a $10 processing fee. This cancellation processing fee is retained by the reservation service contractor along with the non-refundable reservation fee. All requests for the return of the non-refundable reservation fee and the cancellation processing fee will be declined by the campground concessionaire as they did not receive these fees (these are the fees retained by the reservation contractor, a different entity).

DOUBLE ARROW LOOKOUT

Overview The Double Arrow Lookout offers guests a chance to see the Seeley valley and the adjacent Swan Mountains from a different and unique vantage point, high above the hillside. The tower contains a few modern amenities, including electricity, but allows guests to personalize their visits with their own supplies. A variety of recreational opportunities exist in the surrounding mountains, but the view is usually what attracts people to the tower.Recreation Visitors enjoy hunting and hiking. There are a variety of trails that lead from the lookout into the surrounding mountains and valleys. Seeley Lake is located about 2 miles east of Double Arrow and is open to fishing, boating and other water-related recreation. It has a boat ramp, as well as a sandy beach with ample shade for visitors who just want to relax and enjoy the alpine setting.Facilities Double Arrow has an exterior stairway leading to a platform with a covered walkway all the way around the window-encased living quarters. The facility has electric lights, heat, a cook stove and a small refrigerator. An outdoor vault toilet is a short distance from the tower.Two single platforms and two portable cots are provided, able to sleep up to four people. Camping and sleeping are not allowed in the area around and below the lookout. Cell phone service is available in the area.Guests must furnish everything they need in the way of bedding, cooking and eating equipment and cleaning supplies. Guests will also need to bring their own food, towels, soap, garbage bags and toilet paper, among other supplies deemed necessary. The cabin will need to be cleaned before leaving.The lookout can be accessed by vehicle, however, the steep dirt and gravel road requires high-clearance vehicles. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety. Natural Features The lookout is a 14-by-14 structure atop a 20 foot tower. It was built in 1933 and staffed by Forest Service employees until the mid-'80s, when it was opened to the public for recreation purposes. The tower is now listed on the National Historic Lookout Register.The forest contains a wide variety of trees, plants and wildlife, and is home to mountain goats, bighorn sheep, elk, moose, deer and grizzly and black bears (learn about bear safety ). Both the bald and golden eagle reside in the forest, along with trumpeter swan, herons and dozens of varieties of ducks. Nearby Attractions The lookout is a short distance from the Clearwater River Canoe Trail, which offers a prime location to witness the area's spectacular birding, wildlife viewing and scenic views. The 3.5-mile trail can be completed in a couple hours and is done entirely on the water.

MONUMENT PEAK LOOKOUT

Overview Monument Peak Lookout offers guests an impressive yet rustic room with a view. The lookout, built in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, is perched atop Monument Peak, boasting spectacular 360 degree views of the Little Belt Mountains. The lookout was once used to spot forest fires but was left unused since the 1970s. In 1999, the lookout was removed from its 50 foot pole, restored and placed on a short, solid foundation for public rental use. A high clearance vehicle is recommended, as the 2 miles of road leading up to the cabin are rough and rocky. During wet conditions the entie road may be muddy and often times slippery. The Lookout/Cabin is avaialble for rental between June 1 and Novemebr 30 and is closed for the remainder of the year .Recreation Small and big game hunting is popular in the area. Hiking, OHVing and wildlife viewing are also enjoyed. Facilities The rustic lookout has two beds with mattresses, two propane lanterns, a table and chairs and a propane cooking stove. Pots, pans, dishes and utensils are included but are limited. A vault toilet is about 100 feet from the structure. No water, electricity or plumbing is available. Recommended items to bring include drinking water, bedding, flashlights, food, small propane canisters, firewood, matches and a cooler. The surrounding region is a dense coniferous forest with fir, spruce and pine trees. Lewis and Clark National Forest has many miles of streams and fishing opportunities. Native wildlife includes black bears, mule-deer, white-tailed deer, elk, bald eagles, mountain lions and other species.

MOOSE CREEK CABIN

Overview Moose Creek Cabin is situated in an grassy clearing surrounded by conifer forest in the Tenmile Creek drainage west of Helena, Montana. The cabin was constructed in 1907 and used by the Forest Service during the early history of the agency. It has served as a Forest Service Ranger Station, guard station, and work center for the Civilian Conservation Corps. Today, the cabin is a rustic retreat for guests seeking relaxation and recreation. The cabin is accessible by car, but guests should park on the adjacent road and cross a footbridge to get to the cabin. Many amenities are offered at the cabin, so guests only need to bring a few of their own supplies.Recreation Hikers and backpackers can access the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail from trails found near the cabin. This is a non-motorized trail with spectacular views and a variety of terrain, open to mountain bikers, stock users, backpackers and day hikers. The trail transitions through thick forest to above tree line and offers spectacular views both east and west of the Continental Divide. Moose Creek is a stream located just 11.4 miles from Helena. The creek supports a variety of fish, including redear sunfish, rainbow trout and brook trout. Whether spinning, fly fishing or baitcasting, chances of getting a bite here are good. Winter play includes cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing.Facilities Moose Creek Cabin has electricity and is designed for up to 4 guests. One bedroom is furnished with a queen size bed and the other with 2 twin beds, all with mattresses. The kitchen is equipped with a table and chairs, dishes, utensils, cookware and propane cook stove, that include a stove and lights. The living room has a wood fireplace and this is the only source of heat. An outhouse with vault toilet is located on-site. A picnic table and campfire ring offer comfortable outdoor dining. Firewood for indoor wood stove is provided September 1 through May 31. There is no water on site, so guests must bring a sufficient supply for drinking, cooking and washing. Guests should bring their own sleeping bags, lanterns or flashlights, towels, dish soap, matches, toilet paper and garbage bags. All garbage must be packed out, and guests are expected to clean the cabin before leaving. No firewood provided from June 1st - August 31. Lost Johnny Campground

Overview Lost Johnny Campground is located on the Hungry Horse Reservoir, high in the Rocky Mountains, west of the Continental Divide and just south of the Canadian border. Spectacular views and ample opportunities for recreation surround the campground. Lost Johnny Campground has five sites, all of which are reservable. The stay limit is 16 consecutive days. Recreation Swimming and fishing are popular pastimes, and anglers can expect to catch a variety of fish, including cutthroat trout. Boating is also popular on the 27,750-acre reservoir. A concrete boat ramp is accessible from the Doris Point Boat Launch located to the northwest, or at Lost Johnny Point campground which is located to the northeast. Facilities The campground offers 5 overnight sites for tent and RV camping. Each is equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings with grills. Overview Jo Bonner Campground is located at the Northeastern end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir; 30 miles east of Helena, Montana and offers year-round access to a wide range of recreational opportunities. Jo Bonner Campground is named for Josephine Agnes Martin Bonner (1907-1965) by Montana's Governor John Bonner (1902-1970). Today, Jo Bonner Campground is a small quaint campground that offers easy access. Recreation Canyon Ferry Reservoir offers a wide range of year-round recreational opportunities. Water related activities include everything from swimming and fishing to sailing and motor-boating. Canoeists and kayakers explore the many quiet backwater bays. Jet skiers, windsurfers and water skiers skim the summer waves, while winter draws ice fishermen, ice boaters and ice skaters. Facilities Jo Bonner Campground has 17 designated campsites . YAAK MTN. LOOKOUT RENTAL

Overview Yaak Mountain Lookout rests atop its namesake peak at an elevation of 4,977 feet within the Rocky Mountains in the Kootenai National Forest. The lookout tower has been used as an observation point for spotting forest fires since 1958. The lookout is typically open from mid-June through late September. Access is available via primitive roads, and high clearance vehicles are recommended. This rustic retreat offers a few amenities, but guests will need to bring most of their own gear and supplies.Recreation Yaak Mountain Road is for non-motorized use only, with the exception of guests who reserve the lookout. Hikers can hike along this road, as well as explore the remnants of the structures that stood here before the current lookout. Anglers can fish for rainbow trout in the Kootenai River. MT. BALDY-BUCKHORN RIDGE

Overview The Mount Baldy - Buckhorn Ridge Lookout sits at an elevation of 6,529 feet in the Kootenai National Forest. This location has been used as an observation point for detecting forest fires since 1910. The current lookout tower was built in 1957. Overview Douglas Creek Cabin offers a great way to access the various seasonal activities available in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest in western Montana. While hunting enthusiasts enjoy the cabin during bow and rifle seasons, it is popular for snowmobiling or cross-country skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. The cabin is in a very remote location, giving anyone an outdoor recreational experience they will never forget.Access to the cabin is limited by weather conditions. Four-wheel drive is necessary in the winter. Excessive snowfall and wind can prohibit any vehicle from accessing the cabin and visitors will need to plan for cross-country skiing or snowmobiling three or more miles. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring their own amenities. Recreation Douglas Creek is a small stream at this location and does not support any sizeable fish. Fishing is popular in any of the mountain lakes in the vicinity, and many of them are stock by FWP. Access to the lakes will require hiking or driving various distances. The area is home to a variety of trails for hiking, but there are no designated trails near the cabin. A big game winter range and elk calving grounds are nearby, offering great wildlife viewing potential. Hunting for deer, elk and upland game birds is popular in the area. Guests also enjoy snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in the surrounding areas during the winter. Facilities The one-room cabin has bunkbeds that sleep up to four people, a table, 4 chairs and a wood stove for heat. There is no electricity, plumbing or water available at the cabin. An outhouse is located just steps behind the cabin. There ample parking and room to turn a trailer in front of the cabin.A 2 burner Coleman stove, plates, bowls, silverware, basic utensils, french press, wash basins, sponges, rags, dishsoap, bleach, battery powered lantern (4 D batts), splitting maul, and hatchet are provided. Firewood, paper, and matches are usually available but cannot be guaranteed. Guests will need to bring water for cooking, cleaning, and drinking, bedding, personal items, propane, specialty cooking items, headlamps, batteries, matches/lighter, paper, garbage bags, and food. Please do not burn garbage in the woodstove. Newspaper and cured firewood only. A mop, broom and dust pan are provided and guests are required to carry out all trash. Guests are required to clean the facility prior to departure. Cell phone service is usually available at the cabin, gaining elevation improves service. Natural Features The rustic, remotely located cabin is adjacent to Douglas Creek, in the north end of the Flint Creek Range. It is situated in a grassy meadow, surrounded by mature evergreen trees. The cabin was built in the 1960s and was used as an administrative location for crews working in the area.The small and narrow Douglas Creek runs about 50 feet from the cabin through the cabin site. The Flints have abundant wildlife near the cabin, and it is not uncommon to see moose, deer, elk, mountain lions, or bears(grizzly and black). The area is popular for hunting of deer, elk and blue grouse. Dozens of alpine lakes in the range provide good fishing. Nearby Attractions Elk and Deer winter range north of the cabin and on Douglas Mountain. Historic cabin ruins on 5153 road 2 miles east of the cabin. MCGREGOR LAKE CAMPGROUND

Overview McGregor Lake Campground is located approximately 53 miles southeast of Libby, Montana, on Highway 2 at the west end of McGregor Lake in the Kootenai National Forest. This area is about halfway between Libby and Kalispell in the heart of the Thompson Chain of Lakes, a premier fishing and hunting area.Recreation McGregor Lake is host to a prime mackinaw trout population and offers excellent opportunities for a trophy-size catch. There is a boat ramp on-site for access to the lake. Swimming and water skiing are also popular activities. Hikers can walk the 2.9-mile McGregor Lake Shoreline Trail.Facilities The campground has 27 sites, including one host site, all with tables and fire rings. Most sites offer an average length of 32 feet. Vault toilets, garbage service and drinking water are available during the peak season. The campground campsites are not currently on the reservation system. The reservable group site is available for large groups, this site is a 120' x 140' gravel parking area. Tables and fire ring are located within the site. Reservations can be made at Recreation.gov Day use picnic sites with tables and fire rings are located near the beach.Natural Features At an elevation of 3,900 feet, the campground is nestled among young pines at the west end of McGregor Lake in the Fisher River Area. The lake spans 1,240 acres, making it the largest lake in the Kootenai National Forest. The Fisher River Area is the watershed formed by the four forks (West, East, Silver Butte, Pleasant Valley) of the Fisher River and Wolf Creek. Within it is the Thompson Chain of Lakes, which consists of more than 20 lakes.

Overview Clark's Bay Day Use Area is situated on the picturesque "Devil's Elbow" and Clark's Bay of Hauser Lake. Just a short drive from Helena, this area offers stunning views of the Big Belt and Elkhorn Mountains. The area is overflowing with outdoor adventure opportunities. Whether you're into fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, hiking, mountain biking, boating or all of the above; all of these things are immediately accessed from (the greater) Hauser Lake Recreation Area. There is surely an activity for everyone! While just a short drive from Helena, the state capital; the feeling of seclusion and abundant nature is sure to impress. Recreation Clark's Bay offers excellent recreational access. Clark's Bay offers a large, approximately quarter-mile long manicured beach with a volleyball court, pavilions with picnic tables, power and lights. There are vault toilets located in convenient locations throughout the areas. There is a network of non-motorized, dirt, gravel and paved trails throughout Devil's Elbow, Two Camps Vista and Clark's Bay that allow you to walk or bike around the area without contending with vehicles. There are multiple trails within the larger Hauser Lake Recreation area, as well as multiple fishing access sites, hunting access, wildlife viewing and of course boating. World class mountain biking trails abound in the area as well. The recreation opportunities in the area are boundless. Facilities Clark's Bay offers several amenities that will make your day enjoyable and comfortable. At Clark's Bay there are two sets of vault toilets located near the beach and parking areas. There is potable water provided throughout the day use area, as well as garbage dumpsters. There are also picnic tables and small pavilions throughout the areas and benches along the lake and trails to take in the views. There is a small marina, general store with gas and a bar/restaurant just a half mile away. Natural Features The day use area is situated in a shrub-steppe landscape, mostly comprised of sage brush and bunch grasses. The entire day use area has a view of the lake and mountains. While there are some ponderosa pine and deciduous trees throughout the area, they are scarce and do not provide a large amount of shade, but the lake does help keep the temperatures down a bit on those hot summer days. Nearby Attractions Clark's Bay is located in a prime location to get out and recreate outdoors, or within the capital of Montana. There are hundreds of miles of trails, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service lands, state parks, the Lewis and Clark Trail and so much more. Helena (only a short drive away) has all the amenities of a large city with small town charm. BIRCH CREEK CABIN

Overview Birch Creek Cabin is a historic log cabin with electricity. It provides access to a variety of hiking, ohv, and for cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails (depending on the season). A vaulted toilet lies 100' west of the cabin. Guests can typically access the cabin by vehicle, depending on conditions. The roads leading to the cabin are gravel - but suitable for passenger cars (depending on the season and snow levels). The final quarter-mile may be covered with impassible snow during the winter, requiring skis, snowshoes or snowmobile to complete the route. There is a reliable parking area just off of the Birch Creek Road near the Thief Creek Bridge. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities. Recreation An extensive network of hiking trails exists on the surrounding peaks and valleys. Some lead to alpine lakes, which offer quality mountain fishing. Grayling, cutthroat trout, brook trout and rainbow trout can all be found in the mountain waters. There are two popular cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails adjacent to the cabin. The Birch Creek Loop and the May Lake Ski Trail both traverse through the area. Old mining roads are plentiful in the area, providing excellent opportunities for exploration on foot, bike, ohv or horseback.Facilities The two-room log cabin is equipped with bunkbeds and mattress pads that will sleep up to four people. A separate kitchen has a table and chairs, an electric cook stove, pots and pans and basic eating and cooking utensils. A wood stove is available inside the cabin for heat. Firewood is provided, but not guaranteed. Please be conservative with wood, this will help us maintain the supply for heating purposes. An axe is provide but do not split wood inside the cabin or on the porch. Finally, if the wood supply is low please call the Dillon Ranger District at (406) 683-3900 and leave a message if calling outside of regular business hours. An outhouse with a vault toilet is available outside the cabin. Drinking water is unavailable at this time, sorry for any inconvenience. Guests will need to bring their own bedding, including blankets and pillows, as well as matches, food, toilet paper, garbage bags and other necessities. Wood may be available, but the supply cannot be guaranteed. Those staying at the cabin during the winter months will need to bring their own water for drinking, cooking and cleaning purposes. Guests are asked to clean the cabin and carry out all trash upon departure.There is no cell phone reception at the cabin. Limited cell phone coverage may be obtained near the Forest Boundary to the east (carrier dependent). Natural Features The cabin sits below a historic Civilian Conservation Corps work camp at the confluence of Birch Creek and Thief Creek. It is situated on the eastern slopes of the Pioneer Mountains in southwestern Montana, and was used as a forest ranger station as early as 1908. A forested picnic area is nearby. An abundance of wildlife live in the area, including elk, moose, deer, pine marten, wolverine, northern goshawk, wolf, black bear and (rarely) grizzly bear. SILVERTIP CABIN

Overview The remote Silvertip Cabin serves as an ideal base for accessing various hiking and horseback riding trails to the Great Bear and Bob Marshall Wilderness areas. Located 70 miles south of the town of Hungry Horse, up to eight guests can enjoy the comforts of the cabin's mattress-covered beds and warm up by the wood stove following various wilderness adventures. The cabin is only available on weekends from early July until August, or sometimes the first weekend of September. Access requires up to a 4-mile hike or horseback ride to the cabin, depending on conditions and the time of year. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities. Recreation From the cabin, several hiking and horseback riding trails lead into the two wilderness areas. Fishing, wildlife viewing and hunting are also popular activities.Facilities The log cabin can sleep up to eight people in six single beds and two cots. Amenities include a propane stove, propane lights, basic cooking utensils, a wood stove, a sink with running water, and an outdoor pit toilet. Trapper Springs (MT)

Overview The Dillon Field Office is unable to make reservations for you. Please call Recreation.gov (877-444-6777) to book a reservation or book online. Campsites are available for reservation for the Peak-Season times of May 1st through September 15th. All sites are first-come-first-serve from September 16th through April 30th. Trapper Springs Campground is adjacent to the lower Madison River and provides good access for camping, fishing and floating. The campground has 15 camp sites, 9 available for reservations. There is no boat launch available at this site, but there are several in the vicinity. The campground serves as a great central location to access the lower Madison River. The day use area has a large pavilion with parking for 20 vehicles. The pavilion can be reserved for groups ($50/day). The campground has 15 camping sites with two accessible vault toilets. Organized Group permits are required for groups larger than 15 people. Recreation The Madison River is well known for its robust trout fishery. The lower Madison River is a very popular destination for non-angling floaters (tubers) during the warm summer months. Trapper Springs sits roughly half way between Warm Springs boat launch and Black's Ford Fishing Access Site. Facilities 15 campsites, 3 accessible vault toilets, drinking water, group use pavilion, fire pits, and picnic tables. SPRING GULCH

Overview Spring Gulch Campground is a well-maintained campground located about 50 feet from the highway, on the banks of the scenic Bitterroot River. Visitors enjoy a variety of recreational opportunities, including hiking, mountain biking, fishing and swimming. The campground provides accessible sites and amenities, making it a comfortable spot for anyone to relax in the mountains of southwestern Montana.Recreation A number of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails can be accessed near the campground. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail can be accessed not far from the campground, as well as trails that lead to the area's numerous mountain peaks. A variety of natural hot springs exist in the area, including Lost Trail Hot Springs, which is approximately seven miles south of the campground. The springs are popular places for swimming. A general store and lodging are located nearby. Rafting, canoeing, kayaking and fishing on the Bitterroot River are also popular activities. A short paved path meanders along the river and an accessible fishing dock is located within the campground. Anglers can expect to find mainly cutthroat trout, but other freshwater species are available. Facilities The campground offers single and double-family campsites, some of which are accessible. Picnic tables and campfire rings with grills are provided, as are accessible vault toilets and drinking water. RV hookups are not available.Natural Features Located on the banks of the Bitterroot River, the campground is nestled in a ponderosa pine forest. It is easily accessible from Highway 93 and sits at an elevation of about 4,300 feet in the Bitterroot National Forest. A variety of wildlife, including big game like mule and white-tailed deer, elk and moose, makes its home in the area. Nearby Attractions The small town of Sula is less than five miles from the campground, offering gas and a post office.
