Overview Angel Creek Campground is located on the grassy foothills of the East Humboldt Mountain Range, just eight miles southwest of Wells, Nev. It sits at an elevation of 6,200 feet. Visitors enjoy making the short drive to Angel Lake for canoeing and fishing.Recreation Beautiful Angel Lake is just four miles from the campground, offering great canoeing and fishing for rainbow and brook trout.Smith Lake Trail begins at the entrance to Angel Lake Campground, with a designated day use parking area for the trail before entering the campground. A variety of wildlife, including bighorn sheep, mountain goats, deer and birds of prey, make its home around the lake, creating good viewing opportunities for visitors to the area. Facilities The campground provides vault toilets and drinking water. Each campsite contains a picnic table and combination campfire ring with grill. Most sites have tent pads. Firewood is available for purchase from the host. Trash collection is available during peak season. The tent only group camping area can accommodate up to 30 people and six tents. There is parking for six vehicles. The site contains picnic tables, a group fire ring and family grill. The site is handicap accessible. If not reserved, the site can be used on a first-come, first-served basis for group camping or day use picnics. Campground is open on a first come first serve basis after peak season, without trash collection and drinking water. Please bring what you need, and pack it in, pack it out. Off season campground use is weather dependent. Please call the local district office for current status. Natural Features The campground is situated among mature aspens, which offer partial shade and beautiful fall color. Wildflowers dot the area during the summer months.

Indian Creek Recreation Area, Nevada

INDIAN CREEK CAMPGROUND (CA)

Overview Due to the extensive damage sustained in the 2021 Tamarack Fire, Indian Creek Campground is CLOSED at this time and will remain closed until the area can be made safe for public access and facilities can be rebuilt. Updated Press Release . Indian Creek Campground is nestled in the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada between the California towns of Woodfords and Markleeville. Elevation in the area ranges from 5,600 feet at the reservoir to 6,400 feet in the surrounding foothills. Pine trees and sagebrush dot the landscape. Summers are generally warm and dry with daytime temperatures occasionally reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit, while evenings are cool and comfortable. Sunny and dry days prevail, interspersed with periods of spectacular thunderstorms in the mid-summer months. Recreation Many recreational opportunities are available at Indian Creek Campground and the surrounding area including fishing, camping, picnicking, hiking, sailing, mountain biking, nature study, rock collecting, sightseeing, wildlife viewing, bicycling, white-water rafting and photography. Fishing is by far the most popular activity. Trout are stocked in the reservoir and the river; the nearby East Fork of the Carson River is managed as a trophy fishery. Facilities A campground with 30 sites is situated next to Indian Creek Reservoir. The campground has an RV/tent loop, a tent walk-to loop and group camp area. The RV/tent loop has 19 sites that are suitable for recreational vehicles up to 34 feet in length or tents. The walk-to tent loop has 10 sites with parking nearby. A group campsite (tents only) is available for groups of up to 40 campers. The main restrooms located in the RV/tent loop have flush toilets and hot showers. Drinking water is provided.A day use area has four picnic sites, a boat ramp, large parking lot and restrooms with flush toilets. Natural Features Indian Creek Campground is spread over 160 acres in a forest of burnt ponderosa, Jeffrey and pinyon pines. The campground is located on the west bank of Indian Creek Reservoir. Several campsites have reservoir views through the trees. Nearby Attractions Opportunities to view beautiful waterfalls, snow-capped peaks and rushing mountain streams abound throughout this landscape. Consider the following: whitewater raft or kayak the East Fork of the Carson River; fish the East or West forks of the Carson River; explore South Lake Tahoe; hike along the Tahoe Rim Trail; explore off-highway vehicle routes around Hope Valley; drive out to Blue Lakes for fishing, hiking, and horseback riding; hike into the Mokelumne Wilderness; follow the Emigrant trail up from Hope Valley over Carson Pass; mountain bike along a network of logging roads; fish and boat on Silver Lake and Caples Lake; enjoy a meal at Kit Carson Lodge or Caples Lake Resort; discover the beauty of Hope Valley and visit famous Sorensen's Resort for lodging, meals and activities.

POWERHOUSE GROUP PICNIC AREA

Overview Powerhouse Group Picnic Area is set in scenic Lamoille Canyon, next to Lamoille Creek, at an elevation of 6,500 feet. Elko, in northeastern Nevada, is just 25 miles away. Visitors enjoy fishing and exploring local trails.Recreation Fishing for rainbow and brook trout is popular on the creek. Lamoille Canyon contains numerous hiking and horseback riding trails that lead to alpine lakes and scenic vistas. The canyon road itself, Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway, is popular for scenic driving and road biking. Facilities This day-use picnic area was constructed in 2003 and is a fully accessible site. A large shelter covers several picnic and serving tables, two grills and a campfire circle with benches. Accessible vault toilets and trash collection are provided but drinking water is not available. A large parking area is adjacent to the site, accommodating 25 through 30 vehicles.Natural Features The picnic area is situated at the mouth of Lamoille Canyon, a part of the beautiful Ruby Mountains. The area is a desert island brimming with wildlife, sparkling lakes and streams, wildflower-filled meadows and jagged peaks. The shelter is surrounded by a stand of shady aspens. Overview Ward Mountain Recreation Area and Campground sits in the shadow of its namesake, just 10 miles southwest from the city of Ely, in eastern Nevada. It sits at an elevation of 7,400 feet. Many trails are available for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Recreation Ward Mountain and the surrounding area offers miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Many of the trails offer scenic views of the surrounding high desert terrain. Facilities This campground offers single-family campsites and three large group sites that can accommodate up to 100 or more people. Multiple access points for trails are found throughout the campground with the main trailhead located at the eastern most side. All campsites are equipped with picnic tables, campfire rings and grills. Vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided, but there is no electricity. A campground host is on-site during the peak summer season. Natural Features Ward Mountain is the highest point in the Egan Range, topping out near 10,800 feet. The campground is well below the summit, but sits high above the desert floor below. A forest of pinyon pine and juniper trees covers the area, offering partial shade and privacy between campsites. Nearby Attractions Comins Lake is about 13 miles from the campground offering boating and fishing for trout and bass. Cave Lake State Park is less than 20 miles away, with opportunities for boating and fishing for rainbow and brown trout. Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park is 26 miles away, with interesting historic stone ovens and an interpretive trail. The Northern Nevada Railway in Ely has a museum and offers train rides. Overview Red Rock Canyon's standard, RV, and group campsites are located in the stunning Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, an approximate 20 mile drive from "The Las Vegas Strip." Visitors enjoy hiking, rock climbing, bike riding and scenic driving in this unique Mojave Desert environment. Note: If visitors would like to visit the scenic drive, they must have a separate timed entry reservation for each day they plan to enter the scenic drive. Reservations are required October 1 to May 31, 8am -5pm. Recreation The Red Rock Scenic Drive & Visitor Center is located 3 miles from the campground. If visitors would like to visit the scenic drive, they must have a separate timed entry reservation for each day they plan to enter the scenic drive. Reservations are required October 1 to May 31, 8am -5pm. Red Spring/Calico Basin is located 2 miles from the campground and is a no fee area and does not require a reservation. Facilities Our campground facilities are as follows: 53 individual standard sites with a max of 10 people and 2 vehicles are allowed per site. All standard sites contain picnic tables, grills, and firepits. Grills and firepits available only as fire restrictions allow. Some individual standard sites have shaded picnic table areas. Common vault toilets, trashcans, and drinking water are provided. 3 fully accessible campsites. At these sites, in addition to the parking spot having a concrete surface, as they do at most of the other sites at the facility, there are concrete pathways leading to the restrooms, which are all accessible. 10 walk-to sites with a max of 1 tent and 1 vehicle per site. All walk-to sites contain picnic tables and grills. Grills available only as fire restrictions allow. Common vault toilets, trashcans, and drinking water are provided. 6 RV Sites which have room for 1 RV and 1 vehicle per site. Common vault toilets, trashcans, and drinking water are provided. There are no hookup services (electrical, propane/gas, water tank filling, or grey/black water disposal). 7 large group sites can accommodate up to 50 people and 8 vehicles per site. All group sites have a shaded picnic table area. Each group site is primarily tenting with 10 individual small tent areas. Common vault toilets, trashcans, and drinking water are provided nearby. Grills and campfire circles available only as fire restrictions allow. Parking is limited to the campsite's designated parking. There are no extra parking areas and no Day Use Area in the campground. Overview The Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway (SMVG) complex includes a visitor center, an education and research building, two amphitheaters, two picnic sites and over 40 miles of adjoining trails. The complex houses the Silent Heroes of the Cold War National Memorial - the only national monument dedicated to the Cold War era, honoring the thousands of individual who worked covertly for the United States government during the Cold War. SMVG is also home to the Seven Stones Plaza, which celebrates indigenous people - seven Southern Paiute tribes known collectively as Nuwuvi (or "the people") and their longstanding ancestral relationship with their creation place in the Spring Mountains. The SMVG is both a destination and a gateway to provide visitors with everything needed to appreciate and enjoy the Spring Mountains.Recreation The picnic areas are near a visitor center, two amphitheaters and 40 miles of trails. Trails may be found at the Forest Service Trailhead on the other end of Cathedral Rock Picnic Area.
